After some years, a small update... I have just purchased one of these: store.digilentinc.com/zybo-z7-zynq-7000-arm-fpga-soc-development-board/
This is a Xilinx SoC device with a dual-core ARMv7 (32b) processor linked to an FPGA. The connection between the two is via AXI interfaces and/or digital signals.
I have got the 7020 version - this has 53k FFs and 4.9Mb of block RAM.
My intention is to port the existing design to this device and add DASD support based on Hercules code.
Please do not hold your breath for this!
